Do you realize the answer to the most significant question about being a coach? Stop & read carefully because what I’m about to ask you could be one of those things that you just glance over & end up missing out on.
It’s happened to me before. I was reading the first few pages of a book & I thought “this isn’t new” & put the book down. Then, months later, while on a vacation, I actually read the book & it was one of the most strong books I’ve ever read (I’ll tell you what book it was below).
The moral of the story is “don’t let something strong slip through your fingers”… like the book I almost skipped or like this question I’m about to ask you!
“Why do you want to have a successful coaching business?”
Is it because you want to
1) Do work that you love?
2) Do work that has meaning?
3) Make a difference in people’s lives?
4) Be your own boss?
5) Enjoy a flexible work schedule?
6) Make more money?
7) Take great vacations?
Buy a new car (your dream car)?
Or is it something else completely. Perhaps you just feel “guided” to coaching. I certainly do. Regardless of what draws you to coaching, there’s one key piece you should pay attention to in the question above: “successful”.
If the desire is strong enough, you will achieve the level of success you want because you will have sufficient drive to put in the energy, time, learning, etc. that it will take to get your business where you want it to be. But…
If you aren’t clear on what is motivating you, or if you haven’t decided yet, what you really want, then you could fall to the way-side like so many coaches that have given up.
“The Key Difference”
The key difference between winning & losing at anything in life often times comes down to desire. In sports we hear this phrase all the time, “It comes down to who wants it the most.” Desire has a strong impact on us. It will keep us going even when the going gets tough.
“Coaching Challenge”
The first assignment I give my clients is to create a Dream Board or in other words a “New Reality Board”. What you do is…
1) Think about what you want your life to be like & find pictures from magazines, brochures, or from the web that represent the things you want to have, be, & do.
2) Post these onto a piece of posterboard, or cork board (or put them on your refrigerator with magnets). Do this because…
3) You’ll see a reminder every day of what you are creating & WHY you are working so intently on the actions that move you towards your new reality. Many times the tasks that we do from day to day seem very removed from what we are creating. Your Dream Board will drive you forward with a smile & keep you going through the challenges that come up along the way.
Coaching Point!
Sadly, most people that read this article & love the idea of a dream board will not create one. Why? Because most people aren’t “doers”. What I mean is most people do not take action on good ideas. 4 Years Ago I created my dream board & my friend thought it was a great idea, but he never made one. 4 years later, ALL of mine have come true & FEW of his dreams have & he still does not have a dream board. If you think this is a good idea, do not just enjoy the idea, get in to action!!
