If you were to research the benefit of homeschooling, you would come across some very impressive statistics & study results. These study results have not been missed by our nation’s colleges, as today there are hundreds of colleges including Yale, Harvard, & Princeton that place considerable value, both educational & social, on an applicant who has been home schooled.

Why? Because many states have completed studies that have proven a home schooled student will equal or surpass a public school student in comparative testing results in the area’s of education & socialization. Here is an example; on testing that measures a students self-esteem only ten percent of students home schooled were below average, while 50% of students in public school scored below average. One of the main benefits of homeschooling is the added closeness of family that comes with being schooled at home. With so many negative social influences on children in today’s society this strengthening of family values through homeschooling is priceless. Protection from some of these negative influences can literally save a child’s life.

Teaching parents can control the values & beliefs to which their children are exposed. Children can be taught in the time frame that benefits them individually, in a one-on-one situation, & not as part of a group. These teachings can be tailored to meet your child’s learning style, made interesting & exciting, & any problem learning area’s can be successfully handled with as much time & individual attention that is needed.

A child’s natural talent in any subject area, including music or art, can be encouraged & supported. There will be no public school budget cuts that may eliminate the child’s exposure to the arts. As the child grows older, any of the “big, sensitive issues” that must be learned can be done when the parent feels the child is ready. A great example of this would be learning about “the birds & the bees”. Even with all the information available today regarding safe sex, & birth control, the number of children born out-of-wedlock, & the spreading of sexually transmitted diseases is staggering. It will be much better for a child to learn about these things at home as opposed to in the school yard.

Homeschooling will help you build intimate & meaningful relationships with your child, allow you to personally expose the child to the everyday joys of life, & to have a greater impact on the child’s values & maturity. However, as a potential home teacher, do not for a minute believe that this can be done successfully without a total commitment from both you & your spouse, With this commitment there are many terrific benefits to homeschooling. Not only for the child, but also for the parents, the family, & society as a whole.
