I will be graduating with a biology degree from a university this spring, and have always wanted to learn a couple of foreign languages, but it has been too costly, and I’ve been too busy. How difficult is it to go to a community college to take some courses after I’ve gotten a higher education degree? Do you think I would still qualify for financial aid?

1) Yes, you can enroll at a community college after you have your bachelor’s degree. You can enroll as either a degree-seeking or non-degree-seeking student.
1a) Continuing Education courses at your local community college, public recreation department, or state university are cheaper. Especially useful if you won’t be needing these courses for credit and just want to learn stuff.
2) It’s easy to go to a community college after you have a degree – you just go down there, enroll, and pay the fees.
2a) There are better ways to learn a language than via college courses. Most people that have taken three semesters of a language can’t even order lunch. An intro course is a good place to get started but after that, immersion and/or heavy use is the best way to learn.
3) Financial Aid? Nope – there’s little or no financial aid for you after you have completed your bachelor’s degree except in the form of loans. Community college is usually cheap enough that you’ll not want to get loans for it. The same is true if you’d like to earn another bachelor’s degree – not much financial aid there (and no fed grants) for that second one.

Yes, you can attend/take courses at a Community even if you have a Phd!
>”Do you think I would still qualify for financial aid?”
Previous degrees/education does not bar anyone from applying for financial aid!

Hi
You can attend community college but if you will get financial aid is a completely different question that the community college will have to answer for you.

Yes. Lots of teachers take courses at CCAC here… It’s pretty inexpensive, and a good way to pick up some extra skills. Especially in teaching, language skills are useful, and as Education majors, we didn’t always have time for a double major, or language minor. (with observations, student teaching, praxis exams and stuff)

Yes you can still go to cc after getting your undergrad or graduate degree.
And yes, you can receive financial aid regardless of your previous education history.

Yes, it is possible to get an associate’s after the bachelor’s. Yes, it is possible to get financial aid for the post-baccalaureate associate’s, if the associate’s is in a different major than the bachelor’s.

Absolutely. I’m always taking classes at the local cc and I have a couple of graduate degrees.
As for financial aid, generally you have to be in a program that leads to some kind of degree, so it would be like starting over. But tuition is tax deductible. You can check with financial aid about possible financial aid, but I wouldn’t count on it. Having a prior degree does not keep you from getting scholarships and grants. I got a federal grant while going for my second graduate degree.
You could also look at continuing education through the community college. Those classes are less expensive, usually. You just don’t get college credit for them.
