My wife and I plan on opening a retail store. Which college degree and specializations should I attain that would be most beneficial in acquiring the knowledge and skills needed for us to eventually franchise our business in order to minimize or greatly reduce the outsourcing that would otherwise be required for a successful business franchising venture?

With the United States potentially expanding public-funded health care & the boomers aging into Medicare I think it is a fine time to acquire a degree that would easily get me employed in the public health-care industry.
But I don’t know what sort of degree to take.
Social work?
Public health?
Something administrative?
I have an ancient B.A. in English, so I’m hoping for a graduate degree.
Any advice?

Some people might argue just the opposite. One, there is no such thing as “Obamacare”. The concept of the Affordable Care Act is to increase the overall health of the nation and thus lower the cost of health care and therefore, health care insurance. Additionally, there are restrictions being placed on insurance companies. So many people think it may be good to get out of those professions. However, if you can develop ideas for making the US healthier, there may be something out there for you.

Grad school reminded me of high school. He said/she said rumors, cliques, back-stabbing, etc. Childish and demeaning to the program. Would a PhD program consist of even sicker games, or would it be more likely to consist of more professionalism and human decency?

I dropped out during my junior year (11th grade) of high school. I regret it and would really like to start going somewhere in my life. I just turned 17 and have been going over my options and a high school diploma has a better look than getting a GED so I’ve been told? How long would it take to get mine online?

Good decision… keep it up .

I would suggest you look into local night courses. Your school system may offer them in an ‘adult class’ setting. If so that would be a better way to go since you get your diploma from a ‘brick and mortar’ institution. There are a lot of ‘on line’ diplomas that might as well be printed on toilet paper for all their value.

An alternate solution would be to follow your education at a community college where a HS diploma is not always required and you may be able to jump start to an AA degree.

Do some calling and keep the goal of education in front of you.. as you have learned it is a lot more valuable than you thought .

there is no relation between mba and stock market.
there is seperate a course of stock market if you want to become a master in stock market.
but my personal opinion is dont fed into the stock market ..many lifes had ruined due to stock market.
or if you still cant control,play safely..dont invest huge money in 1 stock…

I am a freshman in high school and scince 6 th grade have wanted to be an astronaut. I am in all honors classes hopefully going to a higher educational vocational school next year and in addition a pretty good soccer player. Anyway I want an engineering degree and so have set up my electives to do so. My question is what degree shud I strive for in college in engineering? Thank you

Since the chances of becoming an astronaut are pretty much zero (they were never good to being with, and now that NASA is phasing out the shuttle program they won’t need any anytime soon) pick a field of engineering you can use to get a job that you like.

Yes, it would almost certainly be recognized. We consider Canadian degrees to be equivalent to ours, so that even Canadian medical school graduates are not required to jump through the same hoops other foreign graduates face.

However, a federal job might require U.S. citizenship. If the applicant were a U.S. citizen who had just happened to study in Canada, then there would be no problem.

The University of Maryland is offering distance learning classes in different sections of IT, specifically Homeland security mgmt and information assurance. I will be going to obtain my Masters Degree. Would you recommend distance learning in this category? Or would face-to-face classes prove better for my learning in this particular subject? Thank you for your help in advance!
PE I understand where you coming from, however, I am in the military and I am stationed overseas…would that make a difference @ all in the way employers look @ my schooling?

University of Maryland—”University College” is starting to lose its reputation by offering so many highly specialized — some would say commercial and bogus — Master’s degrees. Any day now I expect UMd-UC to offer a Master’s in Advanced Nosepicking.

The jury is still out on whether IT can effectively be taught online. It’s probably good for promotions within a company, but an employer hiring new grads will probably want someone trained on-campus.
