Article by David A Khan

With the ever increasing graduate Jobs market with more and more recruiters using a jobs board as a way of advertising then there is no doubt that many employers need to consider optimising their vacancies to help fill the position.

There are many job boards elements that could do with tweaking and optimising to help improve conversions however, there are four mandatory elements that needs to be included but most employers fail to consider. These are:

? Cost effective job boards

? Relevant job boards

? Incentivise businesses

? Offer Bonus Services

Cost effective job boards

In order for you to have a jobs board that works you need to make sure it is cost effective. You need to make sure that the price is comparative to similar services offered online otherwise you are pricing yourself out of the pack. You have to consider that online recruitment services are competing with an array of other advertisers that are looking to secure the same business as you, such as radio advertising and press. The price of online media has its advantages as it is usually one fifth the price of traditional advertising, however, if the price isn?t right you will fail to secure a service.

Relevant job boards

You need to make sure that the graduate jobs you are advertising, the prices charged to the agencies and the response rate from suitable candidates is deemed profitable to both the job boards advertisers and the agencies. If the price charged to the agency outweighs the benefits and more importantly the investment then it is unlikely that they will choose to do business with you again. In order to optimise the conversions you need to identify and match together the graduate jobs ads on the job boards and the relevant candidate as best possible, providing a constant influx of candidates to the employer. By collecting as much useful and relevant information about the candidate you will improve their chance of securing a job that matches there description.

Incentivise businesses

There are many ways you can reward both large and small businesses to encourage repeat business. For businesses where large volumes of graduate jobs are generated you can offer bundles or flat fee arrangements. Bundles usually come in the form of a fixed price for a certain package. Flat fees usually involve unlimited graduate jobs ad placements over a set time. For businesses where fewer graduate jobs ads need to be placed, for every few placed you could offer free advertising.

Offer bonus services

Besides posting graduate jobs ads the job boards can also be used for other reasons that can be deemed beneficial to the agency and candidates. Hosting CV?s for potential employees that are set out correctly, clearly demonstrating key skills and experience will not only help the candidate find a job that will match their skills but the agencies will be able to see that they are getting a steady stream of relevant candidates without having to advertise elsewhere. This means that they will continue to use your services.

Many young people troop about looking for jobs but very few eventually get hired. Many employers are looking for young smart people to work for them, however, a handful of our young people are interviewed and hired. So why are they not getting jobs? Why are the employers not hiring freely?

Most times I conduct my interviews as an employer right in front of the office door. ?When did you live school? Did you complete senior school? Are you computer literate? Are you Internet literate? Do you have an active email address? Do you have your CV with you? When the answer to the last three questions are no, I thank the visitor and release him/her. Even when I am looking for a cleaner I pose the same questions. As an employer, I have decided that my cleaners would be computer literate.

So what should the youth (young school leavers) do to attract employers? They should do these five things. They would be surprised about the kind of response they would get.

Acquire relevant computer skills today

Not every computer skill is relevant for basic office operations, though all skills are useful, not all would give you audience in most small offices. Such computer skill as programming, web designing, and computer maintenance are useful but no one looking for simple office job should start with them. If you are looking for a simple office job start with such computer skills as ms word, ms excel, and ms access database and internet operations. You must start with the basics and later build up your skill portfolio. Employers want people who can do basic office operations. If you are already working but not computer literate enroll in a part time computer program and upgrade your skills. Use your lunch time to learn something new and useful. I have seen many young men and women work in shops for years without becoming computer literate. If you must move up in our society today you must strain yourself. Use your time well; learn how to use computers.

Find out what Employers Want

Ask friends and relatives who are working what their day to day work involves, ask them what their employers expect from them and find out what skills are mostly required. Find out if they are having any setbacks because of what they can not do for their employers. Inquire from your relatives and friends who were recently hired what they were asked in their interviews. Find out from them what they did to get an interview. If you get these information and act on it, you would be in a better position to make yourself attractive to prospective employers. In addition, you would be surprised to know that most of your friends who were hired have almost all the aforementioned skills.

In summary, it is my conviction that every young person who has just completed senior school or has been at home for quiet some time without job, must not loose hope or despair. Rather what they should concern themselves with is what they should do to attract employers. This attraction of employers goes beyond good looks. You must be ready to acquire skills, skills that would set you apart from others when your CVs are considered by employers. Remember, serious organizations would look at your VC before inviting you for an interview. Your CV is what they see, not your looks. So enrich your CV with above mentioned relevant skills and employers would be compelled to invite you for a chat. Learn something today; spend money on your brain, not on your brawn.

Online education has become a trend and popular channel for many students and working adults to earn their degree. Online education creates a flexible and convenient environment for students to earn their degree while maintaining their preferred living style. But, many still doubt about the value of online degree, you may concern on how your potential employer will look at you during the job interview if you degree is earned through online education. Do employers look down on online degree? You may ask. This is an important question that needs to be answered because you need to ensure that your degree you going to earn through online will helps you to start your career smoothly after graduation.

According to Market Data Retrieval, a Connecticut-based firm that supplies education marketing information and services shows currently there are more than 4,700 accredited higher education institutions nationwide and nearly half of these schools offer an accredited degree, with the majority putting courses online. In fact, more and more prestige and reputable traditional universities offering online degree program that enable their students to attend online classes from remote locations. This is a good indication that online degree programs are widely acceptable in the job market else the online education will not grow so tremendously.

In fact, employers are more concern about “fake degree”. If you are earning a degree through online degree program from a reputable and properly accredited online university, your online degree has no different than those earned from “brick & mortar” universities. There are many online degree scams, most commonly known as diploma mills offering fast-track degree through their “fake” online degree programs where you can earn your degree extremely fast, some are within a few days. The degree earned from diploma mills is totally unacceptable in the job market. If you apply a job position using degree issued by diploma mills and is found out by the employer, the employer will definitely look down on your degree in concern to the “fake degree” instead of online degree.

If you have decided to pursue your degree through an online degree program, you need to spend some time to search for a right online university. There are many online universities offering the degree of you choice. What you need to do is get as many program information as you can from those online universities, then review each and every one carefully, eliminate those online degree programs that are not meeting your requirement AND those sound suspicious to be “fake” degrees. Once your short listed the degree programs that at the first glance are recognized and properly accredited, your next step is to confirm the accreditation of those online universities with the accreditation database from CHEA.org. Those legitimate and accredited online universities are listed in this database. As long as you are getting online degree from properly accredited by a recognized accreditation agency, you shouldn’t face any problem when you use this degree to start your career later.

Summary

Maybe you’re considering getting a degree from an online university. Maybe you’ve just earned one and in preparing to apply for new jobs that will make the most of it, you’re wondering whether or not prospective employers will see your resume and have bad associations with your online degree. In a word, the answer is no.

Employers who require employees to have a college degree care that you have one from somewhere. Traditionally, there are about 20 colleges in the United States (the Ivies and a handful of other prominent schools) that make employers sit up and take notice about where your degree came from. If you did not attend one of these places, you are like most people, who find that the name of their school is less important to their employers than how they performed academically, and what they studied.

In fact, your online degree may set you apart in a positive way from the rest of the pack of applicants. Successfully obtaining your degree online tells prospective employers that you are a person who will get the job done even when no one is looking. Online degrees testify that their recipients are self-motivated individuals who are capable of managing multiple priorities. And whatever job you’re applying for, rest assured that those are two qualities all organizations prize.

Furthermore, online universities are becoming more and more popular. While your online degree can set you apart in the aforementioned ways, you should have no fear that it will stigmatize you. Each day, it becomes more and more likely that the person you sit down to interview with may have attended the same online school that you did!

Another benefit of the online university experience in the eyes of employers is that it is designed in large part for working professionals. The fact that you’ve made it through an online degree program tells your prospective employer that you have had intense exposure to the types of collegial interactions you will face in the working world. Online universities emphasize and develop the ability to work with others, to manage and meet deadlines, and to be responsible for learning on your own. When you consider all of the things a degree from an online university says about you, you should realize that you’re more of a proven commodity, a “safer” hire than recent graduates from brick and mortar universities.
