Does anyone who goes to graduate school NOT get a job upon graduation?

I would love to go to school to be a dentist and have been taking the necessary classes in my undergraduate schooling, and luckily all the prerequisites are similar for Medical School, Dentistry, Veterinarian, etc.
My question is, does anyone spend all the time and money into a graduate school such as these, and not be able to find a job?

Just because you go to grad school, does not guarantee you have a job.

    Of course!

One can’t simply trade a diploma for a job, doesn’t work like that. What your diploma actually says is: This person should possess enough knowledge to know how to preform his/her job and has proven that they have enough drive to stick with a profession. (notice, however, it does not say “This person would be a great fit/ would work wonderfully in the position being offered)

In this current economy, it is shocking how many grad school graduates do not find a job in their field and, in a lot of cases, at all. Companies are simply not hiring right now and those who do, prefer some real world experience along with a degree. It may not be right, it may not be fair, but it is the reality of what is going on out there.

First, you need to understand the difference between grad school and professional school. Those who go to grad school and earn masters degrees or Phds don’t always find work and many are unemployed because they got a degree that wasn’t needed or they don’t have any work experience.

However, professional schools are different. Doctors, dentists and vets typically have a much better chance at employment and most are going to have a pretty easy time finding a job. The only exception I can think of are lawyers. There are just too many lawyers. But, most of the health professionals do just fine.
