Say you got a 4 year degree from a community college because you can. Now say you got one at a “respected” college such as the state college. What is the difference? Will employers look at you differently if you have the exact same degree from a different type of college?

Yes, there is a big difference. CC is more like high school, while a “real” University should make you think. Employers know that anyone can be accepted to CC. But employers mostly look for work experience related to the job that’s offered. If you transfer from the CC to a “real” University, you should be fine.

It really depends more on the reputation of the colleges involved than on the types of colleges. For instance, the community college in my area has a really good reputation. A lot of the graduates from there go on to get great jobs or transfer to a four year college of their choice.
