I would like to be a professional helicopter pilot someday. The only problem is that training is very very expensive. Usually about a minumum of $50,000. I cannot afford this. There are not very many financial programs that would finance this training, and those that do will only finance a small portion. If, however, there was a college degree incorporating a helicopter training program (maybe a Bachelors of Science in Aviation), federal financial aid might cover the expenses. Any suggestions?

Hello:
I suggest that you contact Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Prescott. I’ve included their webpage below. They do offer a degree in :
Aeronautical Science – Professional Pilot – Rotary-Wing
The Aeronautical Science Degree/Rotary-Wing program blends flight training with rigorous academics to provide a strong foundation for careers in corporate, commercial or military aviation in a rotary-wing aircraft.
The price for flight costs does add on to the education, but you are earning a degree which is an immediate benefit to you. Additionally, they offer financial aid (FAFSA) and other payment options.
I also am including some links to other colleges which offer training. They are:
Naugatuck Valley Community College
Norwich University -Norwich has a lot of ties w/military and has more a traditional campus feel, too.
Embry-Riddle does have a good reputation in the industry as well. I am including a link below to their student survey as that will give you an impartial view of the school from the students.
Good Luck in your studies!.

Parks College in Illinois. It is right outside of St. Louis, MO. Has a full aviation program, from airplane mechanics, to piloting, to airport management. They do include helicopters. Parks is associated with St. Louis University, in St. Louis. SLU was buying Parks in the ’90s. They may have even changed the name by now. I’m sure you can find info on the internet under either Parks College, or St. Louis Univ. It is a very good school. Good luck.
