A bachelor’s degree is a prerequisite for a master’s degree, which means that you cannot enroll in a graduate program until you earn your bachelor’s degree. But should you pursue a graduate degree once you’ve earned your bachelor’s? The following article aims to explain what a student should expect when pursuing a master’s degree, as well as the differences between graduate degrees and undergraduate degrees, in order to help prospective students make this important decision.

DurationA bachelor’s degree usually takes longer to complete than a master’s degree; the usual duration of a bachelor’s degree is four years, while a master’s program takes about two to three years. But several college programs at both the graduate and undergraduate level can be completed in less than traditional completion time. CourseworkThe coursework for graduate degree programs tends to be at a much higher level than bachelor’s degrees; graduate degrees delve deeper into the chosen field of study, have a more extensive and advanced course load, and tend to have higher expectations from instructors than bachelor’s degree programs. SalaryAccording to the National Center for Educational Statistics (2010), *master’s degree holders earn a median 20% more than bachelor’s degree holders, and bachelor’s degree holders earn a median of 53% more than those with no higher education. Hence, while getting a graduate’s degree can considerably improve your chances for financial success, a master’s degree is more likely to bring you the potential of an even brighter financial future.

To pursue or not to pursue? So you’re done with your graduate’s degree, and now you have to decide whether you should stop right here and start looking for work, or if you should continue with your education and pursue a graduate degree. While a master’s degree can open up employment options and can put you in a higher pay scale range, in the end the absolute necessity of getting one depends on your career goals.

For example, if your eventual goal is to become a registered nurse, you would need (among other criteria) at least a bachelor’s or associate’s degree. However, if your eventual professional goal is to become a physical therapist, you will be required to get a master’s or doctorate degree before you are allowed to practice.

Higher education can lead to greater job stability, more opportunities for growth, and the potential for higher wages. However, the decision to continue studying past the undergraduate level should be made after careful consideration of a number of key factors: your ultimate career goal and whether you need another degree to achieve it, your financial situation, and whether you can spare the time and effort required by graduate degrees.

It is easier than ever to complete your degree online. Major universities around the country now offer students the ability to transfer credits you may have earned from a different university and to continue and finish that degree from an accredited university. No longer do you have to settle for the classic for-profit online universities such as university of Phoenix. You can now get that undergraduate degree from a legitimate brick and mortar university.

Most universities now offering these types of degree completion programs offer a few different major possibilities, but most should offer a Liberal Arts degree option which can potentially be applied to a wide variety of jobs. Online and distance learning has become so popular as of late due largely to the advances in technology. With the increased availability of high speed internet, powerful computers, web cams, and the like, classes are being created which allow a student to learn from home just as effectively as if they were in the class room, maybe even more effectively depending on the student.

Even if you started a degree that doesn?t closely match one of the available degrees you are looking into, you may still very well be able to transfer credit and have a head start. Most degrees require a certain amount of core credit which you may have already completed. The best way to find out is by getting in touch with an admissions advisor to find out of the credit you have already is something that would apply to an available degree completion program.

Because there are a wide variety of programs out there, it is best to do a little bit of research to figure out which degree completion program fits your needs best. If you are looking to get a degree in a specific area of interest, then you will certainly want to go with a university that offers that particular degree. However, if you really just want to complete an undergraduate degree without much concern for what the concentration of study is, then a liberal arts degree may be right up your alley.

Article by Peter Franklin

If most of what matters to you in a career is money, then you are going to want to choose your college major carefully. Your decision here will largely determine the work you will do for a large portion of the rest of your life. At the very least, each degree affords you the opportunity to start a career earning a certain average amount of money. Let’s take a look at some of those degrees and the careers and salaries that come with them.

Profession: Dentist.Average Salary: 0,000.Degree: 4 years Undergraduate and 4 years Graduate.

A degree in dentistry takes a lot of schooling, but pays extremely well and is highly in demand. The work is not easy, but always interesting. If you think you would enjoy going through that much schooling, you will certainly be rewarded with job security and high pay. Most medical degrees guarantee a high salary and a certain level of prestige.

Profession: Chemical Engineer.Average Salary: ,900.Degree: 4 years Undergraduate required and 2 years Graduate strongly recommended.

You don’t need to be a genius to become a chemical engineer, and this career can earn a fairly high amount of money. It is a growing field that is important to all new technology. There are many different facets of chemical engineering that one basic degree will move you toward. If you want to do anything especially interesting and cutting edge, it will help to pursue a graduate degree in a specialized area of chemical engineering. Doing so will also up your potential salary.

Profession: Nurse.Average Salary: ,900.Degree: 4 years Undergraduate.

If your interest is in the medical field but you don’t want to go to school for too lengthy a period of time, consider becoming a nurse. The pay and demand for these jobs has increased dramatically in recent years, so view the above salary as closer to a bottom estimate – and without the need to be concerned about job security.

Profession: Psychologist.Average Salary: ,800.Degree: 4 years Undergraduate required and 2 years Graduate strongly recommended.

If you like addressing others people’s problems and are interested in the way they think and feel, consider the field of psychology. You can serve as a great help to people without needing to obtain a medical degree.

Profession: Computer Expert.Average Salary: ,700.Degree: 4 years Undergraduate.

If you enjoy technical work with computers and can learn quickly, you may already be qualified to do this job; you simply need an undergraduate diploma to prove it to employers. Everyone desperately needs hands-on computer wizards, and this career path offers one of the highest salaries for just a 4-year degree.

There are many other choices in the job market, for sure. The examples above are merely a few of the career opportunities you might weigh as options. Remember, though salary is important, so is your happiness. Try to find a career that you love as much as – or more than – your income.

There are larger numbers of people seeking college degrees at undergraduate universities and these education institutions are accepting older students. Working students are joining more and more undergraduate universities for their educations from all around the world.

Growing numbers of people are making the decision that they will work a job but will receive some type of degree in their futures as well. As a consequence, the quantity of working adults returning to higher education from undergraduate universities is on the incline.

You will find that working employees are faced with many different challenging projects and many feel a little hesitation about the entire process while striving to achieve their career and educational goals. The plus side is that the undergraduate universities strive to enrich, support and encourage this new group of working employees to be successful in their institutions while the students are working fulltime.

The ways in which each school is working with students tends to vary, but the main goal is there are more satisfied people in the workforce as they continue working on a degree of their choice as well.

One of the significant influences from the undergraduate universities is the option to participate in undergraduate universities through the Internet. There are large numbers of courses from the undergraduate universities that are offered on the Internet which allows working employees to be successful students while working odd – shift hours and meeting the requirements of working life and student life. Without the undergraduate universities offering courses on the Internet, many working employees would not be able to attend undergraduate universities.

The other options available for many employees to be successful at undergraduate universities are the various on campus courses that are available. While many employees desire to take the majority of their classes online, there are some classes that students can benefit from the on campus classroom setting. Students can combine the online courses with the on campus courses to create the best learning environment that fits around their working schedules and demands. Read more information about education and universities at http://www.universitiesforphd.com

One final aspect that many schools are adopting is the increasing number of night classes that are available for people who work during the day. If you work a full time job during the day in the past you were left with very few options for evening classes. Schools now recognize that many people who are working during the day still desire the ability to work towards a degree and increasing the number of evening classes that are available is one of the best ways to help reach even more working adults.

More so than ever the undergraduate universities realize that there is an increased number of working adults attending their universities. The goal of the undergraduate universities is to make it possible for older adults to reach their educational goals without sacrificing their careers. Combining all the different options for taking courses that will blend with work schedules and the demands and responsibilities of life has made it possible now for more and more working employees to return to undergraduate universities to earn degrees.
